For this exercise I ventured out to the river Irwell on the outskirts of town, bordering with Salford. On the opposite side of the river, it gave me a nice view of the old town of Manchester, a drop into a pass of the Irwell river and a background of the contemporary buildings of the city centre behind.

Using a black fine liner, I attempted to portray the scene and textures with a feeling for the scene itself. Grim, dank, urbanised, metropolitan, itself spoke louder than the capitalist base that the river itself succeeded.

The modern buildings and cranes on the skyline gave an interesting contrast to the old town houses and churchyards in the middle ground, I guess a good example of how Manchester has, and is developing over the years.
