Pt 4, Pr 4 Ex 2 – Three Figure drawings.

The aim of this exercise was to draw a standing, seated and lounging figure, keeping in mind the balance, posture and pivot points of the different poses. For this I used my work from the life classes I have been attending.

These were a mixture of 5 minuet poses and 20 minuets poses. Establishing such as the angles g the central line was the first thing I mapped out, running from the top of the spine where it connects to the skull, to the pubic bone, then the balance point running down to the position of the legs.

This helped me get an accurate spatial representation of the pose. With the image on the right I had to alter the leg and arms paying more attention to reference points such as the angle and distance between the knees and the hands.

Concentrating on reference points I mapped out a pose looking for points to gauge so I could accurately line up the limbs and body.

Building the angle of the shoulders onto the central line and angle of the hips and lower torso I could start to put together the pose being aware of the angles and distance from the hips to the toes, the triangle of the left arm to the face, allowed me to get a realistic representation of the model.

It’s a different experience drawing live, not only is it’s a live person in front of you, but also there are other people around you seeing your work. I think this is a really good environment to put yourself drawing in an unfamiliar environment and see what you can come up with.

Initially I wasn’t paying much attention to reference points, but learning about seeing the relation and angles between different points, knees, feet, hips, shoulders, hands and the head, this helped me map out the figure in a more accurate way. I’m sure it would be the same for the face as well.
